Maryland Beef Producer's Short-Course Series

 The University of Maryland Department of Animal Science in partnership with University of Maryland Extension has designed this short-course to provide producers educational information and hands-on training in several areas of beef production. Whether you're just thinking of starting your own beef production operation or have been in the industry for years, this short-course will have something for all.

 

Series II - Beef Cattle Reproduction

Reproductive efficiency has long been recognized as the most important aspect of commercial beef production. This one-day session will assist producers in improving their herd management and selection for reproductive performance which could significantly improve profit potential. 

Topic areas that will be covered include: Beef Genetics, Choosing the right bull for your program, Reproduction, Synchronization Protocols and Artificial Insemination, Calving

Series I - Basic Beef Cattle Production 

This two-day introductory workshop covers many areas of the beef cattle industry in both a classroom and hands-on environment. The experience is designed as an introduction course for beginners, as well as a refresher for more experienced cattle producers.

Topic areas that will be covered include: Determining Daily Operating Costs and Budgets, Understanding EPD's, Animal Health and the Veterinary Feed Directive, Body Condition Scoring, Nutrition, Forage Sampling and Storage, Pasture Management and Paddock Development.

 Series I Dates

 Series I will NOT be offered again until 2020
