Internships

ANSC Internships & Careers

All ANSC students are encouraged to participate in an internship, whether for academic credit or purely for the experience. Internships are a great way to gain work experience, build relationships, and develop soft skills. Internships can help you definitively decide what you do and do not like about a certain career, and if that career is a good fit.

What is an internship?

An internship is a monitored work experience that has intentional learning outcomes and goals for students.

  • The intent is for you to learn from a professional in an intended career field.

  • Ideally, the internship host provides educationally enriching projects with learning objectives, mentoring, evaluation, quality training and supervision.

  • The majority of job assignments should relate to your major or career interests with minimal assignments involving clerical work.

How can I find an internship?

  • Read the weekly ANSC email newsletter. This is the primary way that the most current internship and job opportunities are posted!

  • Enroll in EDCP108I (Academic Transitions to Internships), a 1-credit course for students who have never had an internship and are actively searching for one. Students participating in this course will engage in the full experience of searching for an internship.

  • Get some ideas from browsing the ANSC internship opportunities page.

  • Visit the University of Vermont internship resource for additional ideas.

  • College of AGNR website features jobs and internships with an agricultural focus.

  • Visit the University Career Center! They have extensive listings of a variety of internships, as well as holding workshops and career fairs.

  • Your advisor can be a good resource on jobs and internships. Make an appointment with them to talk about your career aspirations; at the very least they can point you in the right direction.
