Mission:

The undergraduate program in the Department of Animal and Avian Sciences at the University of Maryland fosters scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and hands-on learning to prepare students for diverse careers in animal science, veterinary medicine, research, and industry. Our rigorous curriculum integrates foundational knowledge with real-world applications, supported by small class sizes, accessible faculty, and experiential learning opportunities. As an ANSC student, you will learn about the husbandry of many domestic species. Our BS Degree program allows students to choose a focus of study: 

  • Science/Pre-Professional track: prepare for entry to graduate or veterinary school

  • Animal Care and Management track: prepare for a career in animal science industries
