Campus Farm Coordinator (#103151)

Responsibilities:
The Department of Animal and Avian Sciences (ANSC) at the University of Maryland, College Park seeks a Coordinator, Campus Farm (position #103151) (JR100517) to support the University of Maryland’s Campus Farm in managing daily farm operations and fostering excellence in animal care, education, and outreach. This is a full-time, in person, Exempt Staff position that is integral to caring for and managing livestock (sheep, horses, cattle, pigs, chickens, and goats) and maintaining facilities while also playing a key role in equine-focused education and student engagement. Key responsibilities include:
- Equine Management: Collaborate with farm manager and equine faculty to oversee horse care, including feeding, turnout, health monitoring, coordinating veterinary care, managing horse acquisitions and sales, and supporting broodmare activities (pre- and post-foaling)
- Livestock & Facility Management: Ensure the health and well-being of all livestock, oversee grazing schedules and pasture management, maintain nutrient management plans, and ensure the upkeep of farm equipment and infrastructure
- Education & Mentorship: Serve as the instructor for ANSC 105: Horse Care Practicum, coordinate student shifts, supervise student labs, and mentor student workers and volunteers, including managing the Campus Farm Volunteer Program
- Administrative Duties: Maintain inventory of supplies, support compliance with IACUC protocols, manage records (e.g., horse stable license, sanitization), and update standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in animal science or a closely related field is required
- One must have personal transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- At least two years of experience caring for and riding or training horses and prior experience handling livestock.
- Must be willing to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays due to the nature of caring for animals and hosting educational events.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and demonstrated leadership skills supervising others.
- This position requires sound working knowledge and computer skills in MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience handling sheep and/or goats, broodmares, and foals, operating farm machinery, and managing pastures. Individuals who have taken academic courses in equine science and/or management are preferred.

Academic Program Coordinator (#103153)

Responsibilities:
The position will be responsible for providing administrative support to the academic programs unit (graduate and undergraduate.) Graduate Program support will involve communicating with graduate constituents both internal and external; administrating the graduate program including admissions, communicating with and advising students, maintaining records, keeping up-to-date on changes that impact both programs, assisting with recruitment by coordinating advertising and meeting with prospective undergraduate and graduate students and giving tours, planning, executing and running departmental and recruiting events such as the Graduate Student Review Day and the Annual Symposium, and maintaining the graduate program website. Undergraduate Program Support will involve serving as the departmental scheduling officer for classrooms and courses, assisting with advising and recruitment activities, coordinating online course evaluations, assisting with new student orientations, and preparing administrative paperwork for both programs. Position will also be responsible for creating and curating content for departmental social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, to engage prospective students and promote program activities, as well as other department and College related projects and duties (including committee service) as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required from an accredited college or university.
- One year of professional secretarial, clerical, coordinator, or administrative experience
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including proofreading and editing documents; the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders in a courteous and efficient manner; the ability to handle unique needs with respect to students’ concerns both diplomatically and professionally.
- Must have a general knowledge of and skill in the practical application of generally accepted office practices and procedures; skill in computer software, such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation programs, and email.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute multiple and continuing assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a field related to Agriculture or Animal Science preferred. Animal Sciences background strongly preferred. Some experience with public speaking and presenting in front of large groups preferred.
