Comparative Immunologist

POSITION:
Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track). This position has a 70% research and 30% teaching appointment. The emphasis of the position is on fundamental or applied aspects of immunology in domestic animals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Investigate fundamental and applied immunology and identify novel approaches to improve disease resistance in domestic animals. Potential areas of research may include immune cell differentiation and development, genetics of immune function or disease resistance, nutritional immunology, or immunology of reproduction and development. Research approaches may include molecular and cell biology, genetic analysis or manipulation, or other cutting edge techniques. For appointment as an assistant professor, the selected candidate will be expected to establish an extramurally funded research program, and for appointment as an associate professor, the individual is expected to have demonstrated success at supporting their research through extramural funding. In addition, the candidate will team teach an undergraduate systemic physiology course each year and teach an additional course in comparative immunology in alternate years. The Department has 20 faculty members and offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Genetics and Cell Biology, Nutrition, Reproduction and Development, and Behavior are major areas of Department research activity.

Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a doctorate in a related area, with demonstrated evidence of expertise in immunology. Candidates should have demonstrated ability or have shown the potential to establish an extramurally funded research program and to teach on a comparative level across species.  Applications from candidates working with domestic animals are particularly encouraged.

Salary and Benefits:
The position is a full time 9-month appointment. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications. The University offers a comprehensive benefits package.
