Dairy Cattle Nutrition

Significant Accomplishments:

  • Developed courses in Applied Animal Nutrition and Energy Nutrition.
  • Authored or co-authored more than 75 refereed scientific publications and 120 abstracts presented at professional meetings, in addition to over 100 speaking invitations at regional, national, and international conferences.
  • Major advisor to 12 completed Master’s Degree and 7 Ph.D. students.
  • Current research focuses on dietary supplementation of trans fatty acid isomers as related to diet induced milk fat depression in dairy cows and their potential for regulating milk fat synthesis. This work has led to two U.S. Patents.
  • First to demonstrate milk yield responses in dairy cows to intestinal choline supplementation which directly lead to commercial development of rumen-protected choline supplements.
  • Past member, Editorial Boards of the Journal of Dairy Science and the Journal of Animal Feed Science and Technology, along with numerous committee memberships in the American Dairy Science Association and American Society of Animal Science.
