Teaching Duties:
ANSC 314: Comparative Animal Nutrition
Prerequisites: ANSC 101 and (CHEM 104 or CHEM 233)
A fundamental discussion of the science of nutrition with emphasis on
the comparative aspects of higher animal forms. Nutrients and their fundamental
roles in animal metabolism in relation to food intake, digestion, absorption,
tissue and product synthesis, and nutrient requirements, excesses and
deficiencies, will be covered in the course. The course is designed to
provide the foundation for further study of nutritional sciences from
either a practical or basic nature.
ANSC 699P: Advances in Protein Nutrition and Metabolism
Prerequisite: BCHM 461 and (ANSC 401 or NFSC440 or equivalent)
Basic concepts and recent advances in protein and amino acid research
with emphasis on the metabolic, physiological and nutritional significance
of amino acids in farm species, humans and fish. Current literature will
be reviewed covering underlying mechanisms and roles of amino acids in
relationship to development, maintenance functions, growth, lactation,
pregnancy, health and disease.
