Awards and Honors:
- Graduate Research Board Award from the Graduate School of the University of Maryland (2003).
Significant Accomplishments:
- Developed graduate course in Protein Nutrition and Metabolism.
- Authored or co-authored 31 journal articles, 5 reviews, 6 book chapters, 3 proceedings papers and 60 abstracts, and received 14 invitations to speak at collegiate seminars and national and international meetings.
- Major advisor to 3 completed Master's and 1 Ph.D. degree students, and current advisor to 3 graduate students. Trained 2 post-docs.
- As PI or Co-PI, obtained over $2.8 M (UK & USA) in extramural funding for research programs in dairy cattle, growing sheep, lactating sow, and fish metabolism and nutrition.
- Current research employs genomic and metabolomic approaches to identify metabolic networks and critical control points rate-limiting or supportive of partition and efficient use of dietary macronutrients for growth of ruminants, fish and poultry. And, research aims to identify factors and mechanisms influencing urea recycling in ruminants.
- Patent pending for a novel metabolic approach to improve nitrogen re-cycling by the ruminants.
