MACC

Mission

To promote beef production in the Mid-Atlantic Region by providing an opportunity for producers and youth to receive feedback on beef quality and to provide education about methods and practices to improve beef quality.

Contest History

The first Mid-Atlantic Beef Carcass and Evaluation Contests was held in October 2008. The organizational committee was excited by the feedback from both the Carcass and Evaluation Contests. The Carcass Contest provided an excellent opportunity for producers to receive comprehensive carcass data about their cattle. The results showcased the high quality cattle produced here in the Mid Atlantic Region:

Champion Steer—Sarah Sumers, P-, YG 1
Champion Heifer—Jimmy Spies, P+, YG 3
Junior Champion—Rachel Burner, C-, YG 2

The Evaluation Contest provided an opportunity for producers and youth to learn about evaluating live cattle appearance and subsequent carcass quality. This evaluation contest provided a rare opportunity for producers and youth to evaluate live finished cattle and then subsequently receive the actual carcass data. The winners from the 2008 Evaluation Contest are listed below:

2008 Junior Youth Cody Boden
2008 Senior Youth Morgan Slaven
2008 Adult Jimmy Spies

Based upon producer feedback, the Committee has decided to offer a custom fed division in 2009 for producers who would like carcass information on their cattle.
